What Is Group Coaching?

Group Coaching is exactly what it sounds like; Business Coaching in a group setting. It can take some of the pressure off of you, the client, since you won’t be working one-on-one with the Coach, and can talk about other clients’ thoughts and questions, as well as your own. It’s also an opportunity for the Coach to reach many more clients at once.

If you are considering hiring a Business Coach but aren’t sure where to start, group Coaching can be a great way to “test the waters” and get a feel for how the process works. After a few group Coaching sessions, using the method of worldwide bestselling author Brian Tracy, you may decide that you are ready for some one-on-one Business Coaching.

Here are some basics to know about group Coaching, to decide if it’s right for you.

You won’t be in the spotlight the whole time.

Some clients prefer group Coaching to one-on-one Coaching because the focus isn’t always on them. Everyone in the group gets an equal chance to talk, and to discuss the others’ ideas, which means every client also gets some time to think and reflect on what the others have said. The Coach’s attention, meanwhile, is divided among everyone in the group, so that focus isn’t always directed at you. This might be an ideal setup for you, depending on whether you do your best thinking while you’re in the spotlight, or out of it.

You’ll be working with non-competitors.

The organizers will make sure you are not working with anyone in your same industry, in your same geographical region. That means you will have no chance of running into one of your competitors or, very likely, into any other business owner you know personally. You will be free to dig into the details of the challenges you are facing, and the nuts and bolts of the goals you hope to achieve in your market.

You will have to share your thoughts with the group.

As in any Coaching session, you will have to speak up and not just to the Coach, but to the rest of the group. It does not have to be high-pressure, though, the Coach will keep the discussion casual, and will encourage you to share your thoughts and expand on them, without criticizing you or forcing you to talk about anything you don’t want to. It’ll be up to you to give the group enough information to work with, so they can work together to generate some useful input for you.

You will get a lot of input and feedback.

The group will listen to everything you are sharing about your business and then they will give you feedback on it. People from other industries and backgrounds can often have surprising insights on your processes and bottlenecks, and can point out problems you would never have seen on your own. Your Coach, too, will work with the others in the group to ask you more questions, to get you thinking about more solutions, and to help you, as well as the others in the group, mold those solutions into actionable plans for your business.

What do you think, could group Coaching be right for you?
