High Performance Planning For Your Business

It is truly a changing business and world environment. And if we don’t perform and execute at a high level, our careers and businesses will be in trouble. On top of that, we can’t know what the economy is going to do or what the future holds for our industry. Our fear is that we will become irrelevant and our businesses and careers become history.

But with every challenge comes opportunity! Each of us has the ability to create an amazing business and culture. We all can attain great personal and financial success. We have the power to define our careers, our companies and enrich ourselves and the people around us. And ultimately, we can all aspire to be the person that grows our business and is responsible for creating huge value for ourselves and the people that join us in this quest. The possibilities are endless, but the fact remains that we can be the master of our own fate.

If you act like a top 5% company, you will be one! The question becomes, what does it take to be a top 5% company? And the answer is that it starts with smart goals and a solid plan. And by smart goals I mean SMART goals. Your goals have to be Specific, Measurable, Aligned with your values, Reasonable and Time bound. And developing all of this into a high-performance plan and beyond takes effort, follow through and accountability. But guess what? That is what high achieving people and companies do.

As you develop your plan, there is another key worth noting. It is no longer enough just to execute a good plan. You must let your customers, employees and vendors know your “why”. To restate this, you need to be able to clearly define who you are and what you stand for.

  • What is your culture?
  • What are your values?
  • What causes do you support?
  • What defines you in your own unique way so that people are drawn to you and want to be a part of it?

You need to know it, show it and it has to be real.

You need a detailed plan. You need to communicate it with your customers, your team and your vendors. You have to measure and track it at all times. Everyone needs be in on what you’re doing and who you are. And a good place to start is with your key people. Consider gathering them, sharing your vision and having them help you evolve your vision and your goals. Keep your goals SMART. And evolve everything within your culture. In other words, if you act like a top 5% business, you will become one!
